In August 2003, I was sent on a business trip to India and the flight over involved a 1-day layover in Paris, France.

Getting the into the City

The Metropolitan subway station at the Charles de Gaulle Airport.

A violinist playing for tips.

My Walking Tour from Notre Dame to the Effel Tower

My first view of Paris above ground.

A police station overlooking the Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame (under rennovation).

Restoration work was proceeding throughout the city.

The name of this cafe is a play on words. "The'" means tea.

An artifical beach that has been set up along the river...

...is how many Parisians chose to cope with the present heat wave.

One of the dinner cruise boats available along the river.

This is the first time I've ever seen a Segway in person.

Another 2600 moment (inside joke).

A bus stop ad for the Pirates of the Caribean movie.

The Smart Car.

Naked women as seen on TV?...

...to go with the naked women as seen on the streets, I suppose.

Am I in India already? No, wait. That's tomorrow.

My seatmate on the flight over recommended I check out the Muse de Orsey museum. Unfortunately, it closed early that day, so I didn't get to go inside.

Looking across the river at the Louve.

This building is just to the west of the Muse de Orsey.

A variety of road signs.

At this point, I decided to take the Metro past the Effel Tower...

...and then appproach it from the southwest.

A replica of the French-built Statue of Libery stands in the river near the Effel Tower.

A Renault dealership.

The Metro crosses above ground here.

Getting closer...

I must be almost there...

I have arrived!

The west pillar.

The north pillar.

The south and east pillars.

Looking up.

A narrow park stretches to the east of the tower...

...and ends with this fountain where yet more Parisians try to beat the heat.

This lady was sketching the tower in a letter to a friend.

A bicycling tour group of some sort.

Back at the Novatel Hotel

Just a small bar.

Compared to the grandure of the city, the hotel restaurant was nothing to speak of, but my meal was decent enough.
